Ohrid is notable for once having had 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and has been referred to as a “Jerusalem (of the Balkans)”. The city is rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and tourism is predominant. It is located southwest of Skopje, west of Resen and Bitola. In 1979 and in 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid region

Situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid, the town of Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. Built mainly between the 7th and 19th centuries, it has the oldest Slav monastery (St Pantelejmon) and more than 800 Byzantine-style icons dating from the 11th to the end of the 14th century. After those of the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, this is considered to be the most important collection of icons in the world

ACCOMMODATION

The Congress center in Ohrid, property of “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, is situated in a very attractive location on the coast of Lake Ohrid, near the settlement Lagadin, only  6 km away from the center of Ohrid and 17 kilometers from the airport “St. Apostle Paul”. The center offers hotel services and is open for everyone.
The accommodation capacity of the Congress Centre amounts to 100 – 110 beds available in: 3 apartments equipped with little kitchen and folding armchair, 23 single rooms, 29 double rooms, 5 triple rooms. All rooms have bathroom, mini-bar, TV set, internet connectivity and terrace. The apartments are 22 m2 in area (size) and all the other rooms are 16 m2. Most of them face the lake and have a wonderful view of nearby park and the lake coast.
The Congressional center is with own parking space and restaurant area with 170 seats.
The Congressional Center is the ideal blend of intimacy and separation, which offers excellent conditions for relaxation and recreation, as well as contents that complement the tourist offer.
It has own park of 30.000 m2, own urban beach and cafe-bar.

By bus

There is a regular bus service from Bitola and Skopje. The bus from Skopje takes approximately three and a half hours.

The easiest way to get to Ohrid is from Skopje, where buses run every few hours. A bus from Skopje takes about 3.5 hours and costs 520 MKD one way (US$10 or € 8.50) or about 750 MKD RT.
